Mr. James Thomas "Thom" Love

Mr. James Thomas Love, of Mount Airy, went to be with his Savior on Sunday, May 15th 2016. He was born on June 25, 1948 to the late Aubrey and Hazel Love. Sometimes in life you are fortunate to know someone truly special, someone who lived with such character and dignity that they make an incredible mark and won’t ever be forgotten. Thom was one of those people. He was first and foremost a Christian who daily lived out his faith through demonstrations of generosity and thoughtfulness to those he loved, as well as to complete strangers. He was a founding member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he served as both a deacon and treasurer. He also served as a Gideon and worked with the Surry Baptist Association. Thom had many accomplishments and was one of the hardest workers you could meet. He was an Eagle Scout and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He retired from Westinghouse where he worked as a tool designer. Thom loved to travel and had visited 49 of the 50 states. He enjoyed nothing more than a good road trip to watch baseball. His favorite team was the Dodgers who he faithfully followed since childhood. He had a keen intellect and witty sense of humor. He could recall facts both important and completely random. Most importantly, Thom was a loving husband, father and papa. If you were to ask him he would say he was most proud of that. He is greatly missed by those who survive him. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Love and their four daughters: Kimberly Love Johnson (Wesley) and granddaughters Evyn Faith, Emery Grace and Ensley Love; Kara Love Neill (Jason); Kathryn Love Payne (Stephen) and granddaughter Madelyn Harper; Karlie Love Hudson (Scott). He is also survived by his mother-in-law Nellie Perdue, and sister and brother-in-law Dianne and Greg Warney. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Pilot Mountain with Rev. Grant Atkins and Dr. Billy Blakely officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. The family expresses their sincere gratitude for the care given by the palliative care nurses at Novant Health, and also Thom’s dear friend Larry Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Gideons International.
