Mr. James Buford "Jim" Oliver

Mr. James Buford "Jim" Oliver, 81 of Mt. Airy passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center on Sunday, August 25, 2013. He was born in Sitka, AR on July 7, 1932 to the late Esther Lloyd and Charles Oliver. Mr. Oliver retired from General Motors and was a member of Shining Light Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Lawson Oliver of the home; eight children and spouses, Lisa and Rick Sloop of Walkertown, Denise and Conrad Vasquez of Norwalk, CT, Mark and Jamie Oliver of Flint, MI, Lynn Bowman of Cana, Janie and Donnie Turner of Draper, VA and Anita and Eddie Bowman of Cana;, Edward and Terri Culler of Virginia Beach, VA and Jeff and Hillary Culler of Hillsville; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Peggy Oliver of Flint, MI; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Heath Oliver; a granddaughter, Susan Lynette Bowman; a sister, Maxine Watson and two brothers, Alfred and Charles Oliver. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Shining Light Baptist Church with Rev. Elmo Hiatt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy on Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM where his body will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service.
