Mr. James Andrew Poteat Sr. age 61, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born January 8, 1956 to the late Claude Shelton and Ada Irene Gibson Poteat. Mr. Poteat was a Lineman for 40 years and also retired after 15 years of service from Pilot Knob Fire Department. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Tammy Poteat of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jonathan Poteat and wife Nicole, Brandon Poteat Sr. and wife Kerry Ann, Andrew Poteat and wife Stephanie, Shawn Poteat; six grandchildren, Brandon Jr., Sam, Alexis, Megan, Jaxon, and Eli Poteat; mother-in-law, Annie Mae Moore, Aunts Peggy Beck, Nannie Bell Ward, Louella Day. In addition to his parents Mr. Poteat was preceded in death by his grandma, Jettie Gibson, father-in-law, Jr Moore, and an uncle, Tollie Poteat. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 2pm at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt, Airy with services conducted by Rev. Butch Holder and Rev. DC Collins. Burial will follow in Brims Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home from 12pm until time for the service on Tuesday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy NC 27030.
