Mr. James Samuel Scales

Mr. James Samuel Scales, age 80, of Mt. Airy, formerly of Ararat, VA, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2014 at his home. Mr. Scales was born in Patrick County on September 15, 1933 to Samuel Dalton and Lena Blanche Boyles Scales. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was retired from United Elastic. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Doris Jessup Scales; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Naomi Scales; grandchildren, Christy Hernandez and husband Marcos, Patrick Scales, Mason Scales, Marina Scales and Zachary Scales; great grandchildren, Isabella Hernandez and Alex Hernandez; sisters, Marian Isley and Nancy Staples; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Lillian Scales and Phil and Janet Scales and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Scales was preceded in death by sons, Bruce Scales and Danny Scales and brothers, Sonny Scales and Bobby Scales. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Joseph Easter and Rev. Dean Eaton. Burial will follow in Hunters Chapel Church Cemetery with military honors by Patrick County VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
