Mr. Jay Michael Shelor

Mr. Jay Michael Shelor, age 62, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 at home surrounded by family. He was born in Roanoke on December 1, 1954 to Roberta Wilson Shelor and the late Glenn Davis Shelor. Mr. Shelor was a retired carpenter after 46 years of building homes. He was an active member of the 2nd VA Clavary group where he had been a member for the last 28 years and had been a Lieutenant for the last 10 years.

Mr. Shelor is survived by his wife of 15 years, Jayne Hill Shelor of the home; two children, Jessica McAlexander and husband of Meadows of Dan, Jeremiah Shelor and wife of Ashburn; four step children, Aaron Mayer and wife of Haywood, NC, Sarah Mayer of Greensboro, NC, Lisa Fletcher and husband of Bear Creek, NC, Katie Mayer of Greensboro, NC; five siblings, Mary Beth Mattson and husband of Durham, NC, Andrew Shelor and wife of Roanoke, VA, Lauren McKay and husband of Upland, CA, Amy Hernandez and husband of Dubuque, IA, Paul Shelor and wife of Quincy, IL; 8 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 5:00 PM at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church with Andrew Shelor and Donald Wingfield officiating. A caisson procession will begin at 4:30 from the Meadows of Dan Community building to the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Following the service, the family and friends will be able to share memories along with light refreshments at the church.
