Mr. Jerry Dean Rakes

Mr. Jerry Dean Rakes, age 63 of Mt. Airy, passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Rakes was born in Surry County on August 22, 1952 to James Junior and Bernice Loretta Sutphin Rakes. He was a loving father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. . Surviving is his devoted wife of 46 years, Dale M. Rakes; a daughter, Misty R. Embry; a son, Ricky Rakes and his partner, Chad Boyles; two granddaughters, Abigail and Ali Embry; and a brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Freda Rakes; and a sister-in-law, Anna Ruth Rakes. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rakes was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and Donald Rakes; and a son-in-law, William Embry. A memorial service will be held at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, on Sunday January 31, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Butch Holder officiating. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home for Mr. Rakes.
