Mr. Jesse O. "J.O" Barnard, age 98 of Meadows of Dan passed away Saturday at the Landmark Center in Stuart. He was born on Feb. 23, 1913 in Patrick County to the late Robert F. Barnard and Georgia Wood Barnard. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Law Barnard; six sisters, Mabel Rogers, Bessie Overby, Ruth Barnard, Lelia Hamilton, Evelyn Spangler, Larmie Davidson; three brothers, Marion, Lee, and Loy Barnard; and a special friend, Lola Clement. Mr. Barnard was an owner/operator of a Texaco/Short order restaurant, a former Deputy with the Patrick County Sheriffs Office, retired from J.P Stevens, and was a member of Meadows of Dan Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son and daughter in law, Thomas "Tom" and Bettie Barnard of Roanoke; two granddaughters, Dana Staton and husband, Ronnie, Debra Henderlite; two great grandchildren, Tomas Henderlite, Kayla Staton; one sister, Rosie Cox of Stuart; and one brother, Frank Barnard of Indiana.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church with Rev. Lowell Willis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 to 7 at the church. Memorials may be made to Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2511 Jeb Stuart Hwy, Meadows of Dan, VA 24120.
