Mr. Jessie James Doss, 102, devoted husband of Mrs. Pearl Childress Doss, of Mount Airy passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on March 11, 1909 to the late John Murphy and Lucy Johnson Doss. Mr. Doss was retired from the former Highland Cotton Mill in High Point and worked many years as a farmer. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 81 years, Pearl Childress Doss of the home; three daughters Gladys Johnson of Dobson, Jean and husband James Robertson of Mount Airy and Brenda and husband David Allison of Thomasville and a son, Curtis Doss of High Point; 15 grandchildren; 17great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Doss was preceded in death by a daughter, Stacy Doss; two sons, Howard and Larry Doss; three sisters, Minnie Crissman, Mary Baker and Lillian Bullin and two brothers, Hassell and Jasper Doss. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home by his grandsons, Rev. Mitchell Robertson and Rev. Hank Robertson with burial to follow in Stony Knoll Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at Moody-Davis Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter 940 Jenkinstown Road Dobson, NC. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice 945 Zephyr Road Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Woltz Hospice Home for their loving, compassionate care.
