Mr. John Junior Boyd, 75 of Mt. Airy passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Patrick County on September 10, 1938 to the late Samuel Francis and Josie Ann Hooker Boyd. Mr. Boyd retired from grading construction and was a member of the Lawsonville Church of God. He will be remembered for playing bluegrass gospel music with his brothers, The Boyd Brothers, along with other known artist. Mr. Boyd enjoyed hunting with his dogs and joking with his friends and family. He was a wonderful neighbor and friend. He thoroughly enjoyed life and was well respected by all who knew him. Mr. Boyd is survived by his wife, Diane Davis Boyd of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, John Coulter "Colt" and Beth Boyd of King; a step daughter, Lindsay Kimberly Byrd of Waycross, GA; a step son, James Ralston Byrd, III of Decatur, GA; a granddaughter, Peyton Mackenzie Boyd; a sister, Myrtle Bowman of King; a brother, Garland Boyd; of Stanleyville; a sister-in-law, Martha Boyd of Pinnacle, NC; and numerous special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by four sisters, Cassie Bondurant, Francis Boles, Linda Beck and Lane Lawson; and a brother, Jim Boyd. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randal Smith, Rev. Greg Boyd and Rev. Chris Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawsonville Church of God Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
