Mr. John Richard Canosa, Jr

John Richard Canosa Jr., 65, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Novant Forsyth Medical Center after complications from a recent diagnosis. John was born to the late John Canosa and Pauline Fogel on February 20, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY. He wanted to spend his life helping others and found ways to do so through his work as a Vice President in the US Government Lending Division at Surrey Bank & Trust. He worked closely with the Small Business Administration and was so grateful for opportunities to help others establish small businesses. Many have said that he helped make their dreams come true. He was especially proud of the business he and wife started, Momma C’s Crafts and More, located in downtown Mt. Airy. In addition to his professional work, he loved working in the community and with his church. Though he grew up as a city slicker, he loved living in the small town of Mt. Airy. He served on the boards of numerous local organizations. He was the treasurer for the Mt. Airy chapter of the Gideons and served as the treasurer for the North Surry Band Boosters. His faith was strong and he took all the opportunities he could to share his faith with others. He was a proud choir member, Sunday school teacher, and served on disaster relief teams with the NC Baptist men. John loved cars and had quite a collection. He donated most of his collection to the Mt. Airy Museum of Regional History. He is survived by his wife, Shiela; daughter, Amy; son, Michael and daughter-in-law Jennifer; daughter Bethany and son-in-law Sonny, son Adam, daughter-in-law Emily, and grandson Elias. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister, Andree. The family will meet with friends on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church in Dobson, North Carolina. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. following the visitation with Rev. Jay Worsley officiating. While flowers are welcomed, the family invites you to make donations to the Gideons.
