Mr. John Firdan Hairston

Mr. John Firdan Hairston, age 66 of Stuart passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Home in Stuart. He was born on August 8, 1947 in Henry County, Virginia to the late Soldier F. and Lizzie Waller Hairston. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hairston was preceded in death by a sister, Vanessa Hairston. He was a member of Iron Belt Christian Church where he served as a deacon until his health declined. He was a past chairman of the church of several years, enjoyed singing in the choir, and loved greeting people at the door as an usher. He retired as a truck driver for the Virginia Department of Transportation with 26 years of service.
Mr. Hairston is survived by his wife, Karen Street Hairston of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Javon and Vicky Younger of Axton, Jason Younger of Stuart; six grandchildren, Javontay, Tamara, Jaquarius, Hayleigh, Jaylin and Torian; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Curtis and Rhona Hairston of Stuart, Edward and Deidra Hairston of Hampstead, North Carolina; four sisters, Mary Laverne Hairston of Axton, Joan Paulette Hairston of Norfolk, Karen Renee Baglie of Axton, Tammy Walton of Danville; several aunts, uncles and in-laws, a host of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Roger Ball.
Funeral services for Mr. Hairston will be held Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. William Henry Hairston, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Iron Belt Christian Church Cemetery. A wake will be held 30 minutes prior to the service, and at other times at the home.
