Mr. John Lee Johnson

Mr. John Lee Johnson, 80, of Mount Airy passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Surry County on August 30, 1930 to the late Berry Martin and Lovina Edwards Johnson. Mr. Johnson was retired from Surry County as a Maintenance Supervisor and a dedicated member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served our country during the Korean War where he was the proud recipient of numerous medals including three Bronze Service Stars. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter, Dr. Sharon Lynn Johnson of Caneadea, NY; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ruth and Jack Berry of Connelly Springs, Patty Shores of State Road and Betty and Herb Sutphin of Highlands Ranch, CO. and a host of dear nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Margarette Anne Melton Johnson; nine siblings, Rev. Roy Johnson, Sidney Johnson, Helen Woodruff, Faye Edwards, Edward Johnson, Ruby Johnson, Bethel Johnson, Oscar Johnson and Mack Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Piney Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Reece and the Rev. John Edwards with burial to follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 3 pm until the hour of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church Music Fund, P.O. box 1022 Mount Airy, NC 27030.
