Mr. John "Robert" Lankford

Mr. John "Robert" Lankford, age 86 of Claudville, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County on December 5, 1924 to the late John and Lucy Payne Lankford. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lankford was preceded in death by a son, Junior Lankford; one brother, Claude Lankford; and three sisters, Irene Copeland, Carolyn Marsh and Essie Willard. He was a member of Hills Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Lankford is survived by his wife of 61 years, Opal Hooker Lankford of the home; two sons, Jimmie and Janie Lankford, Evangelist Rick Lankford, and a daughter-in-law, Cathy Lankford; one brother and sister-in-law, James "Joe" and Gatha Lankford. all of Claudville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Radford Hiatt of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, Ann and Lurry Plauchae of Louisiana; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Lankford will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Dr. Jerry Whitlow and Pastor David Heath officiating. Burial will follow in the Robert Beasley Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home.
