Mr. John Thomas "J.T." Nichols

Mr. John Thomas "J.T." Nichols, Jr. age 91 formerly of Mt. Airy passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Brighton Gardens and Assisted Living in Raleigh. He was born in Winston Salem on January 23, 1921 to the late John T. and Era Perry Nichols. Mr. Nichols graduated from Wake Forest in 1942. He was inducted into the U. S. Navy in 1943 and was commissioned as a naval officer in the U.S. Navy in 1944. Mr. Nichols ran Nichols Clothing in Mt. Airy for over 40 years. He was an active member with the Mt. Airy Elks Lodge serving as Past President and secretary for the lodge for over 30 years. Also, he served as Past President of the NC State Elks Association and Past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler and among many other positions and committees. Mr. Nichols was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Eloise M. Nichols of the home; a daughter, Cathleen N. Hyatt of Rocky Point, NC; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Claude F. and Jane Sparks of Murrells Inlet, SC and Terry G. and Linda Sparks of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Suzanne Hyatt and Jimmy Hyatt, Jr.; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Montel Nichols and a brother, Lawrence Nichols. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Blevins and Father Larry Heiney officiating. Entombment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum with the Elk Ritual Funeral Service by Mt. Airy Elks #2061. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Monday, July 16, 2012. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all the individuals who provided home care in Mt. Airy, and the staff of Brighton Gardens of Raleigh for their loving care over the last several years. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials by made to the charity of your choice.
