Mr. John Thomas Pace, age 87, of Stuart, Virginia, passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem. He was born in Patrick County on December 17, 1922 to the late John Henry Pace and Sarah Moss Pace Boles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Hallie Harris, Lillie Scott and Grace Hodges. Mr. Pace was retired from the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles, and had attended Creasey's Chapel United Methodist Church. He had served in the United State Army Air Force during World War II in the European Theater from 1943 to 1946. While there, he participated in the Invasion of Normandy.
Mr. Pace is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mae Hopkins Pace of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Terresa of Christiansburg, Virginia; one daughter, Denise Pace Kelly of Lewisville, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Shauna Spanos, Sarah Altizer, Lindsay Pace, Zachary Pace, Ian Kelly and Sean Kelly; six great-grandchildren, Tyler Cook, Hallie Spanos, Lilli Altizer, Whitney Spanos, Sophie Akers and Annie James Spanos; three sisters, Ann Boles, Nell Dickerson, and Alice Cox, all of Stuart; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Pace will be held Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Creasey's Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Hundley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
