Mr. Johnnie Ray Belton

Mr. Johnnie Ray Belton, 66 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 3, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Belton was born on May 19, 1950 in Surry County to the late Johnie Roosevelt and Jo Ann Hawks Belton. Mr. Belton retired from the Surry County Sheriff’s Office where he served as Chief Deputy and Detective during his career. After his retirement from law enforcement he worked as a dispatcher for L.C. Transportation. Mr. Belton was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church and Renfro Masonic Lodge # 691, AF & AM. He is survived by his loving sister, Debbie Marshall of Mount Airy; a brother and sister in law, Roger and Linda Belton of Mount Airy; his very special friend, Vicky Williams of Mount Airy, his loving niece, Renee Hauser of Mount Airy, his nephews, Tommy Belton and Tim Belton both of Dobson; his mother-in-law, Dolly Williams of Mount Airy, and his brother-in-law, Ricky Williams of Greensboro; and his two special fur babies, Lucy and Axel. In addition to his parents, Mr. Belton was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jimmie Gail Belton; his very special nephew, Harry David Marshall, Jr., and his brother-in-law, Harry David Marshall, Sr. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 PM January 6, 2017, at the Highland Park Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Tate and Rev. Dale Riddle officiating. Interment with graveside rites will be conducted by Renfro Masonic Lodge # 691 AF & AM, at Jessup Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Highland Park Baptist Church from 12:30 PM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount Airy Dialysis Center, 1280 Newsome St., Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The Belton family would like to thank everyone who helped care for Johnnie Ray and who assisted with transportation for his treatments and doctor’s visits.
