Mr. Joseph Glenn Sawyers, 94, of Ararat entered the Portals of Heaven on Friday, November 16, 2012 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on June 23, 1918 to the late Frazier Edward and Katie Alice Venable Sawyers. Mr. Sawyers was a retired farmer and a dedicated member of Bryant's Chapel Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving children and spouses, Jimmy Clayton and Judy Sawyers, Christine Sawyers, all of Mount Airy, Johnny and Geraldine Sawyers of Ararat and Rex and Lynda Sawyers, of Mount Airy; ten grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sawyers was preceded in death by his dear wife, Ethel Johnson Sawyers; a son, Willie Gray Sawyers; an infant son, Ricky Sawyers; two sisters; five brothers; a grandson, Clayton Sawyers; a great-great grandson, Skyler Horton. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2012 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Johnson and the Rev. Jason Johnson with burial to follow in Bryant's Chapel Baptist church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral Home one prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Glenn Sawyer Funeral Fund, c/o Moody-Davis Funeral Home, PO Box 295 Dobson, NC 27017 to assist the family with funeral expenses.
