Mr. Joseph Danny Thornton

Mr. Joseph Danny Thornton, age 71, of Mt. Airy, NC passed away on Monday evening October 9, 2017 atMercy Hospital in Mecklenburg Co. NC. He was born in Chatham Co. GA to the late Sarah Shuman McDaniel on December 8, 1945. He was a Truck Driver and traveled the highways for over 30 years. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Galyean Thornton of the home; two daughters, Julie DeAnna Tate of Lowgap, Tonya Renee Thornton of Mt. Airy; two sons, Danny Edward Thornton of Brooklet GA, Frank Adam Thornton of Roanoke, VA; Eleven grandchildren, Peter Edward Thornton, Colton Parrish, Krystofer Grant Nemeth, Aleksandra Grace Nemeth, Brandon Adam Thornton, Lakeland Isaiah Thornton, Zachary Mason Thornton, Alexis Danielle Thornton, and Keanen Brett Chandler and Diana Elizabeth Tate; two sisters, Faye Shinall, Gayle Strickland; brothers, Lonnie McDaniel, Don McDaniel, Glenn McDaniel, and Jackie McDaniel. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Lydia Gail Nemeth, and Sara Jo Nemeth; three brothers, Jimmy, Frank, and Sam McDaniel. A family conducted memorial service will be held Thursday 2:00 P.M. at Holy Cross Baptist Church. Rev. Butch Holder and Rev. Randall Jeffers will conduct the services. The family will greet friends following the service at the church. The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Homeless Veterans C/O NCHV 1730 M Street NW Suite 705 Washington, DC 20036. Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mtn. Post 9436. There will be no formal services held at the funeral home. Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson is helping the family.
