Mr. Junior "Jay" C. Tilley

Mr. Junior “Jay” C. Tilley, age 82, of Mt. Airy, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Tilley was born in Surry County on March 18, 1933. He proudly served our country in the United States Army, retired as the co-owner/operator of Thomas Produce Company and was a faithful member of Slate Mountain Baptist Church while his health permitted. Mr. Tilley was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all his family and many friends. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary McMillian Tilley; daughters, Deborah Elaine “Debbie” Moser, Betty Bowman and Bonita Cain; a step son, Chris McMillian and wife Marilyn; grandchildren, James Tickle and wife Lisa, Rhonda Puckett and husband Jeffery, Susan Cain, Brian Key, Dennis Cain, Jr., Laura Whitaker and husband, Benjamin, Corey Moser and wife Courtney, step grandchildren, Cody McMillian and wife Jordan, Casey McMillian and wife Whitley and Anna McMillian; great grandchildren, Blake Key, Brandon Key, Jaxson Whitaker, Reese Whitaker, Kynlee Moser, and Avett Moser; a sister, Lottie Sams and a brother, Wade Bryant. Mr. Tilley was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice “Ollie” Williams Tilley; his parents, Albert and Vadie Bryant; brothers, Allen Tilley, Junior Bryant and Bobby Bryant and by a step son, Dennis McMillian. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 27, 2016, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Donald Thomas, Chris McMillian and Todd Byrd. Burial will follow in Susie Hawks Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care at 401 Technology Ln., Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to recognize Mountain Valley Hospice for the wonderful care given to Mr. Tilley, especially Shea Dobson and Anita Wallace.
