Mr. Kermit Clay Draughn, 88, of Dobson entered the Portals of Heaven on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Surry County on June 8, 1929 to the late George Mickel and Sally Marion Draughn. He was a simple man who held many positions in and around the Dobson area. Mr. Draughn was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and a community leader. He was the owner and operator of Draughn’s Auto Parts for more than seventy years and was a proud veteran of the United States Army having served our country during WW II. He truly had a servant’s heart. Mr. Draughn was a three time recipient of the North Carolina Governor’s award for outstanding Volunteer Service; served as County Commissioner for eight years; Town Commissioner for twenty years. He was a Volunteer firefighter for the Dobson Fire Department for fifty nine years and the Fire Chief for thirty years. He was proud and honored to complete sixty-three years of Volunteer Service. His memory will long be remembered. Survivors include his loving children, Tammy and husband Marty Branch and Ricky and wife Teresa Draughn; his beloved grandchildren, Sunny and husband Phillip Chrismon, Courtney and husband Alex Wagner, Robin Narehood and Eric and wife Cynthia Moats; nine great-grandchildren, Dylan Moats, Brooke Hawks, Brittney Hawks, Ethan Moats, Jasmine Narehood, Nathan Narehood, Charlotte Chrismon, Sophie Narehood and Kai Wagner; one great-great grandson, Randy Badgett; two sisters, Patty Thomas and Helen and husband Wayne McCormick; two brothers and sisters-in-law Wayne and Katie Draughn and Hal and Kathleen Draughn; and his best friend, Nellie Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Ferrell; two brothers, Coke Draughn and Fred Draughn. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at the Dobson First Baptist Church by the Rev. Cory Honeycutt. Burial will follow in the Dobson City cemerety. The family will receive friends on Monday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home from 6-to 8 pm where his body will remain until taken to the church to lie-in-state for 30 minutes. In-lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2019, 142 Veterans Drive, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041 or to Dobson First Baptist Church, Men’s Fellowship 204 Crutchfield Street, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his caregiver, Michele Ryan for the loving and compassionate care she gave to Mr. Draughn.
