Mr. Larry Waller Baliles, age 67 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Patrick County on August 23, 1941 to the late Syrus and Lottie V. Breedlove Baliles. He was a charter member of Fairystone Baptist Church where he had been an organist for 40 years, and longtime treasurer of the church's Cemetery Trust Fund. He retired in 1999 as Chief Deputy Sheriff after 32 years of service with the Patrick County Sheriff's Department. After retirement, Mr. Baliles was the owner/operator of Larry Baliles Piano Service. He was a member of the Piano Technicians Guild, an avid fisherman, and had been the pianist for several local musicians.
Mr. Baliles is survived by his wife of 44 years, Anita Martin Baliles of the home; and two brothers, former Governor of Virginia Gerald Baliles of Charlottesville and Rev. Stuart Baliles of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Funeral services for Mr. Baliles will be held Monday, September 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairystone Baptist Church with Rev. James Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
