Mr. Larry Carl Martin, age 66 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on June 11, 1945, and was preceded in death by his father, William Clyde Martin. Larry graduated from Woolwine High School in 1963 and served in the United States Air Force. He worked as a new and used car sales manager for 24 years before retiring from Rappahannock Motors in King George in August, 2008. After retirement, he returned to Patrick County where he spent his remaining years playing bluegrass and country music on the 5-string banjo and pedal steel guitar with some of the nicest people and best musicians anywhere around, and considered each and every one a special and dear friend. Larry was able to share his love of music by playing with numerous different groups at the PCMA monthly music night, Spencer-Penn Centre monthly music night, American Legion dances, Rangley Community dances, Landmark Nursing Home and several churches and community events. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith and attended Conner's View Primitive Baptist Church.
Larry is survived by his wife of 26 years, Linda Barbour Martin of the home; one daughter, Jessica Lynn Martin of Midlothian; his mother, Clemmie Elizabeth Cruise Martin of Woolwine; one brother, Bernie C. Martin of Woolwine; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Edward Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in Conner's View Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home.
