Mr. Larry Burton Purcell, age 66 of Stuart passed away Sunday morning at Patrick Hospital. He was born in Henry County on Nov. 24, 1942 to the late Frank Burton Purcell and Lottie Grady Purcell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Purcell Adams. Mr. Purcell was retired from DuPont and had driven a truck for J.C. Joyce Trucking and Paving. He was on the Fire Brigade at DuPont, a volunteer with the Patrick Springs Fire Department, and a 1961 graduate of Hardin Reynolds School.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Emma Jean Hall Purcell of the home; one daughter and son in law, Amy and Russell Williams of Troutville; one son, Mark Purcell of Patrick Springs; two grandchildren, Kirsten Williams, Alecta Feely; one niece, Paula Gilley; and one nephew, Andy Shough.
There will be a memorial service held Tuesday Dec. 9, 2008 at 7:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Jim Churchwell and Brother J.R. Rakes officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his sister in law, Margaret Ayers, 143 Twin Ford Loop, Stuart, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the Patrick Springs Volunteer Fire Department, P O Box 121, Patrick Springs, VA 24133 or to the Jeb Stuart Volunteer Rescue Squad, P O Box 340, Patrick Springs, VA 24133.
