Mr. Lawrence Ranil Hawks, Sr., age 93 of Laurel Fork passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County on January 23, 1918 to the late Elkanah "Kenny" and Elsie Mae Puckett Hawks. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Robertson Hawks; three sisters, Dottie Hawks, Pearl Hawks and Wavie Montgomery; and two brothers, Warren Hawks and Prude Hawks. He had served in the United States Army during World War II, had retired as a linesman with Appalachian Power, was a member of Masonic Mountain Home Lodge #263 and a charter member of CCDF Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and attended Rome Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Hawks is survived by one son, Larry Hawks of Stuart; two brothers, Thomas Maynard Hawks of Valdese, North Carolina and Foy Hawks of Laurel Fork; and one sister, Icy Vass of Laurel Fork.
Funeral services for Mr. Hawks will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Creasey's Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry McMillon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic rites by Mountain Home Lodge #263. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
