Mr. Leon Smart

Mr. Leon Smart, age 82 of Stuart, Virginia passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He was born in Patrick County on February 14, 1933 to the late Delmar Smart and Ada Branch Smart. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smart was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Smart and Charlie Smart. He had attended Buffalo Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church. He enjoyed working with his bulldozers and dump trucks, eating at Robert’s Market and Hardee’s, visiting family and friends, cows and donkeys, bluegrass music, and staying on the go as much as possible. He was a loving and caring, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Mr. Smart is survived by his loving wife and sweetheart, Velda Belcher Boyd Smart of the home; three daughters, Pamela Smart of Ararat, VA, Sandra Smart Spangler of Stuart, and Kim Smart of Martinsville, VA; a son, Michael Smart of Kernersville, NC; two stepsons, Rodney Boyd of Bassett and Gerald Boyd of Woolwine; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; four sisters, Gracie S. Epperson of Ararat, Helen S. Pack of Stuart, Lorene S. Barker of Thomasville, NC, and Betty Jean Stultz of Martinsville; a brother, Willie Smart of Patrick Springs, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Smart will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart, VA with Pastor Kenneth Terry officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home.
