Mr. Leroy Collins

Mr. Leroy Collins, 83, of Mt. Airy passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. He was born in Surry County on October 28, 1933 to the late J Van and Edith Parries Collins. He proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1950 until 1955, serving as a Sgt. in artillery. Mr. Collins was a second generation owner of Collins Upholstery where he worked along with his father and brother. Mr. Collins was a faithful member of the Mt. Airy Church of God for many years. He had a compassionate heart and felt compelled to help others, as a true servant of God. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Mae Ausburne Collins; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Larry Pendergraft; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Kimberly Collins; grandchildren, Cody Collins, and Courtney Collins; sisters and brother-in-law, Judy and Leighton Barton, Brenda Collins, Shirley Warren, Marie Westmoreland, Ethel Brannock; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Wade Collins. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM April 10, 2017 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Loman officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery with full military honors by the VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends on Monday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
