Mr. Lestell Edmond "L.E." Slaughter

Mr. Lestell Edmond "L.E." Slaughter, age 92 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born in Floyd County on February 26, 1920 to the late Luther E. and Susie Conner Slaughter. In addition to his parents, Mr. Slaughter was preceded in death by a son, Glenn E. Slaughter; a step-granddaughter, Heather Patterson; three brothers, Wayne, Waco and Waitman Slaughter; and three sisters, Pauline Martin, Edgena Goard and Juanita Cline. He was a member of Smith River Church of the Brethren, and served in the United States Army during World War II. He started his career as a sawmill operator, and was the owner/operator of Slaughter's Auto Repair and Slaughter's Mobile Home Park, having a special talent for repairing vehicles and homes. He also was a talented musician, and devoted his life to helping and providing for others.
The beloved L.E. Slaughter is survived by his adoring wife of 73 years, Ruby R. Slaughter of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Annetta and Jeffery Lind of Stuart; one grandson, Corey Edmond Lind; one step-grandson, Jeffery Lind, Jr. and wife, Moira; three step great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Eldred and Jan Slaughter of Saunton; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Blondell and Jack Wright of Collinsville and Hertha Hetrick of Pennsylvania.
Funeral services for Mr. Slaughter will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Dewayne Troutt and Rev. Jim Churchwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Roberson Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:00 noon until time of the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the home.
