Mr. Linwood Ray McCraw

Mr. Linwood Ray McCraw, 68, of Sparta, NC, formerly of Cana, VA passed away unexpectedly at Alleghany Memorial Hospital Tuesday, February 27, 2018. He was born in Carroll County on November 18, 1949 to the late Troy Lee and Ruth Dawson McCraw. Mr. McCraw proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired from L.R. McCraw Trucking. He was a gentle and kind man; a loving, husband, father, grandfather and friend. Mr. McCraw is survived by his wife, Shirley Mitchell McCraw; daughters, Stephanie Venable and husband Tony, Amanda McCraw and fiancé Joseph Holt; much adored grandson, Carter Thomas; sisters, Virginia Rogers and Shirley Smith; a brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Myra McCraw; a special nephew, Bryon McCraw and several other nieces, nephews and cousins; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Randy and Margaret Williams, and Steve Mitchell; and many friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. McCraw was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Harvey W. McCraw and wife Peggy; an infant sister, Glenda Kay McCraw; and two brothers-in-law, Harwood Smith and Kenneth Rogers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roland McCraw and Rev. Ricky Easter officiating. Burial will follow in the McCraw Family Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the VFW Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service.
