Mr. Lloyd Vernon Goad

Mr. Lloyd Vernon Goad, age 93 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County on October 16, 1915 to the late Lehue Franklin Goad and Lula Sophia Marshall Goad. In addition to his parents, Mr. Goad was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Smith Goad; one sister, Goldie McAlexander; and four brothers, Edmond, Sterling, Claude and Wayne Goad. He was a member of Five Forks Wesleyan Church and was retired from J.P. Stevens Corporation. He served in the United States Army during World War II, entering on February 16, 1942 and being discharged November 1, 1945. He landed in Auckland, New Zealand June, 1942 and served with Reconnaissance Company 67 Tank Destroyer Battalion in the South Pacific. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, two Bronze Battle Stars as Asiatic Pacific, one Bronze Battle Star on Philippine Liberation and six Overseas Service Bars.
Mr. Goad is survived by two sisters, Nell G. Belton of Stuart and Nannie Belle Williams of Chesapeake; two brothers and a sister-in-law, James Henry Goad of Virginia Beach and Harry Lee and Delores Goad of California; three sisters-in-law, Marie Goad of Claudville, Shelva McAlexander of Mount Airy, North Carolina and Leona Goad of Patrick Springs; several special nieces and nephews, Todd and Tina Nelson, Mitch and Debi Nelson, Angie Nelson, Jessica Nelson, Tyler and Tori Nelson, Devin and Brooklyn Nelson, Abingdon and Virginia Nations and Jeff Hill.
Funeral services for Mr. Goad will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Gary Combs and Rev. Jeremiah Clement officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart from 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning until the time of the service, and at other times at the home of his sister, Nell Belton, Wayside Road, Stuart.
