Mr. Lonise Bueford "Lonnie" Cockram, age 91 of Seminole, Florida passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. He was born in Patrick County on March 23, 1915, the son of the late Zachariah and Lurah Hatcher Cockram, being one of nine children. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cockram was preceded in death by three sisters, Matrice Handy, Lora Cox and Ruby Portch; and three brothers, Ithmar Cockram, Gervase Cochran and Melphard Cockram. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the North African campaign, in the Anzio Invasion and the Monte Cassini Battle. He grew up in the Woolwine area and married on September 3, 1947 in Washington, D.C. He lived in Arlington from 1950 - 1988; Clearwater, Florida until 1995; and Seminole from 1995 until his death. He earned his living as an automobile mechanic, specializing in trucks, buses and motor homes as a regional troubleshooter. He was a member of the Christ Methodist Church in Arlington where he was a greeter and usher, and was a member of Oakhurst Methodist Church in Oakhurst, Florida.
Mr. Cockram is survived by his wife, Pauline Pilson Cockram of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Robert Brown of Boston, Massachusetts; one brother, Delbert Kermil Cockram of Clearwater; one sister, Zulerma Grissom of Vienna, Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Cockram will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor David Westmoreland officiating. Burial will follow in the Ross Harbour United Methodist Church Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
