Mr. Marvin King Sutphin

Mr. Marvin King Sutphin, age 79 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born in Patrick County on July 27, 1931 to the late King and Ida Austin Sutphin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sutphin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bessie Mae Bowman Sutphin; an infant daughter; two sisters, Pauline Gaitlin and Margaret Murph; one brother, Bryant Sutphin; ten half-brothers and two half-sisters. He had worked for J.P. Stevens, was an avid fisherman, and loved playing the harmonica and flat-footing.
Mr. Sutphin is survived by four sons, William Bill Sutphin, Clyde Norman Sutphin, Glenn Edward Sutphin and John Wayne Sutphin, all of Stuart; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Sutphin will be held Thursay, February 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Mary Horner Walker Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jim Churchwell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. If desired, memorials may be made to the Marvin King Sutphin Burial Fund, c/o Moody Funeral Home, P.O. Box 307, Stuart, Virginia 24171. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is in charge of the arrangements.
