Mr. Melvin Radford Hiatt

Mr. Melvin “Radford” Hiatt, 86, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Hiatt was born in Carroll County on April 11, 1931, to the late Griffith and Elsie Frye Hiatt. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy and was retired from NC Department of Transportation. He was a faithful member of Westfield Friends Meeting. Mr. Hiatt was a loving husband, father, grandfather and dear friend who will be sorely missed. Among the many who will always cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Sue Lankford Hiatt; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Ken Railey, Pam Cody, and Gina and Wes Brown; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby Hiatt and Maggie. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bob Cody; a sister, Mary Alice Marshall. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Westfield Friends Meeting with the Rev. Linda Anderson, and Rev. James Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 PM until time for the service at the church.
