Mr. Michael Boyd "Mike" Mitchell

Mr. Michael Boyd "Mike" Mitchell, age 69, of Ferrum passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2013, after a short, courageous battle with brain cancer. Mike loved his family and had a special passion for hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Mildred Clemmer Mitchell; brothers, Kenneth and Dexter Mitchell; and grandson, Kris Mitchell.
Mike is survived by his wife of 27 years, Peggy Wood Mitchell of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Warren and B.B. Mitchell of Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, Adam and Shannon Mitchell of Salem, Virginia, Matthew and Julie Mitchell of Midlothian, Virginia; step-son, Randall Hodges of the home; and step-granddaughter, Savannah Hodges of the home. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and one great-step-grandchild; an aunt, sisters and brothers-law, nieces, nephews and numerous cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Story Creek Baptist Church in Ferrum on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastors Truly Trammell and Dewayne Troutt. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart is in charge of the arrangements. A special thank you to the many family and friends that helped with Mike's care and travel to appointments, and for those who spent time hunting with Mike this past season.
