Mr. Mitchell Hawks

Mr. Mitchell Hawks, 94 of Lowgap, passed away Monday, November 21, 2016 at the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury. Mr. Hawks was born in Lowgap on January 13, 1922 to the late Mr. Richard Carl Hawks and Mrs. Stella Lucinda Galyean Hawks. He served our country in the United States Army during WWII. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jerry Sue and Joe Hayes of Boone; a grandson, Christopher Dean Hayes and wife Lori of Sawmills; great grandchildren, Deserae Johnson, and Lauryn Hayes; two great great grandchildren, Owen, and Vanna; brother, Russell Hawks; step daughter, Geraldine O’Dell and husband, Elmer; step son, James Moxley and wife, Jeanette; numerous step great grandchildren, and many step great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Opal Jean Brown Hawks, and his second wife, Mabel Ruth Lowe Moxley Hawks; a daughter, Frances Hawks Lyons; sisters, Elsie Bryant, Mary Lou Moore, Maude Tompkins, Lelia Morris, Hazel York, and Alice Hodges; brothers, Claude, Swanson, and Raleigh Hawks. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
