Mr. O. Mark Hicks

Mr. O. Mark Hicks, 67, of Mt. Airy passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016. He was born in Surry County on June 1, 1949 to the late Lloyd Rayvond and Anna Belle Clement Hicks. Mr. Hicks bravely served in the U.S. Navy as a Radioman during the Vietnam War earning the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He worked with the Surry County Paramedics for eight years. He was the owner of Hicks Water Stove and Solar Systems, Hicks Mechanical for over 34 years. He is survived by his wife, Carol Arrington Hicks of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Angela Atkins of Mt. Airy and Jana H. and Chris Hall of Lambsburg; a son, Brian Hayes and fiancée, Clara Cummings of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Triston Atkins, Austin Sumner, Sarah Sumner, Hayden Hayes and Jordan Hayes all of Mt. Airy; a step grandson, Dillon Holder of Mt. Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Annette and Danny Smith of Lowgap; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee Roy and Minerva Hicks, Bill and Linda Hicks, Cecil Gail and Lynn Hicks, Peggy Hicks all of Mt. Airy and Robin Hicks of Lambsburg, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by two brothers, James Ray “Jimmy” Hicks and Richard Gray Hicks. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with officiating Rev. Joe Atkins and Rev. Ted Turner officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Honor Guard Mt Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service.
