Mr. Odell Hamm

Mr. Odell Hamm, age 91 of Stuart, passed away Friday, August 27, 2010 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on April 28, 1919 to the late Oliver and Emily Pack Hamm. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hamm was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Lee Gammons Hamm; one son, Wade Hamm; one granddaughter, Vera Lee Hamm; three brothers, Clyde, Bill and Fred Hamm; and three sisters, Lura Goad, Lena Hamm and Minnie Roberts. He was a member of Stateline Primitive Baptist Church, and had been a farmer. He served in the United States Army for four years during World War II, with the Americal Division in the South Pacific and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Mr. Hamm is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Hamm of Stuart, James and Cathy Hamm, of Oak Ridge, North Carolina, Clayton Hamm of Stuart, Tommy and Terri Hamm of Stuart; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Roger Hill of Westfield, North Carolina, Shirley and Carroll Dalton of Westfield, Peggy and Ricky Davis of Stuart and Barbara and Rodney Hiatt of Ararat; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; and two brothers, Leonard Hamm of Mount Airy, North Carolina and Junior Hamm of Ararat.
Funeral services for Mr. Hamm will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Stateline Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John Calhoun, Elder J.H. Keaton, Elder James Flippin and Pastor Mark Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Stateline Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. If desired, memorials may be made to the Dalton Cemetery Fund, c/o Carroll Dalton, 1448 Stateline Church Road, Westfield, North Carolina 27053.
