Mr. Omer "O.L" Bowman, Jr

Mr. Omer Lawrence “O.L.” Bowman, Jr., age 87, of Mt. Airy, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at his home. Mr. Bowman was born on April 17, 1929 to Omer Lawrence, Sr. and Arthea Bobbitt Bowman. He was well known as the owner/operator of Bowman Repair for many years but his employment career included Proctor Silex, NC Foam Industries, Tech Form, Merritt Machine and Quality Mills (Cross Creek). He was a charter member of Covenant Reformed Presbyterian Church. Surviving are daughters and a sons-in-law, Laura and Gene Bowman and Margie and Collin “Mac” Abbitt, III; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and June Bowman and Mark and Cindy Bowman; grandchildren, Abby Bowman Bobbitt and husband Mason, Suzanne Brock, Jared Bowman and wife Brooke, Jacob Bowman and wife Heather, Jada Bowman Wilkerson and husband Caleb, Collin “Cam” Abbitt, IV, Joy Abbitt, Abraham Abbitt and wife Melissa, Sarah Abbitt, Abigail Abbitt Maness and husband Andrew and Samuel Abbitt; and 10 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Doris Love Bowman; a sister, Betty B. Nester and a son-in-law, Randy Brock. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home by the Rev. Collin “Mac” Abbitt, III. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and Mt. Airy Post 2019. The family will receive friends Sunday at the funeral home beginning at noon. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Covenant Reformed Presbyterian Church, 495 S.
