Mr. Orbie Raymond Simmons age 90 of 3309 Summit Hills Trail, Mt. Airy, NC husband of Mrs. Edna Short Simmons passed away Saturday, December 24, 2011 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born May 5, 1921 in Surry County to the late Eddie Franklin and Mamie Hiatt Simmons. He was retired from Adam-Millis Hosiery and was a member of Indian Grove Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife of 73 years, Edna Short Simmons of the home, a daughter, Clara Hathcock, Charlotte, a son and daughter-in-law, Roger Simmons, Sr. and wife, Maggie, Pinehurst, four grandchildren, Karen Workman, and Jennifer Malckesky and husband, Jason all of Charlotte, Skip Simmons and wife Amy, Tampa, FL, William Simmons, and wife Mary, Fayetteville. eight great grandchildren, a brother and sister-in-law, Russell Simmons and wife, Imogene, Winston-Salem. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by two sisters, Nevada Love and Drucilla Tucker and three brothers, Preston Simmons, Holbert Simmons, and Charlie Simmons. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Tommy Floyd. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 1:00 pm Tuesday until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Indian Grove Baptist Church, c/o Brenda Quesinberry, 1620 Holly Springs Rd., Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
