Mr. Orbin Swanson Smith

Mr. Orbin Swanson "Big O" Smith, age 65 of Martinsville, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. He was born in Henry County on July 26, 1945. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Hughes Smith; one son, Orbin S. "Binky" Smith; his father, Edward Smith; and one sister, Ethel Smith Carter. He served in the United States Army and worked at the shipyard in Norfork, and was also an auto mechanic before he became disabled. He was baptized at an early age and was a member of Zion Hill Holiness Church in Stuart.
Mr. Smith is survived by one son, Carl Via of Martinsville; two grandchildren; his mother, Juanita King Smith of Martinsville; two brothers, Edward Smith, Jr. of Greenwich, Connecticut and Morris S. "Smitty" Smith of Martinsville; one sister, Shirley S. Flood of Martinsville; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder James Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in Samaria Holiness Church Cemetery with military rights by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The wake will be held 30 minutes prior to the service.
