Mr. Otis Franklin Stowe, age 90 of Stuart, passed away Monday, March 21,2011 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. He was born in Patrick County on June 17, 1920 to the late James Robert and Martha Biggs Stowe. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stowe was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Louise Layman Stowe; one son, Ralph F. Stowe, one granddaughter, Shaunaci Stowe; six brothers, Arthur, Russell, Howard, Walter, Enoch and Shelburne Stowe; and three sisters, Addie Smith, Hallie Corns and Mary Sue Macemore. He had retired from J. P. Stevens and was a farmer.
Mr. Stowe is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and Harry Lee of Virginia Beach, Ethel and Lowell Hopkins of Meadows of Dan and Nellie and Leon Handy of Stuart; five sons, and daughters-in-law, Larry and Lynetta Stowe of Stuart, Bruce Stowe and Penny Lester of Stuart, Calvin Stowe of Patrick Springs, Blaine and Carolyn Stowe of Stuart, James P. Stowe of Lawsonville, North Carolina; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ada Gauldin of Martinsville; three half-sisters, Doris Tuggle of Spencer, Beatrice Hopkins of Fieldale and Marie "Trixie" Hopkins of Fieldale; a daughter-in-law, Shirley R. Stowe of Patrick Springs; and a niece, who is more like a sister, Mabel Stowe of Stuart.
Funeral services for Mr. Stowe will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder E.H. Gunter and Rev. Rick Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Russell Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
