Mr. Paul Raymond McGee, Jr., age 76, of Mt. Airy, NC passed away on Monday evening October 3, 2016 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry Co. on November 17, 1939 to the late Paul Raymond McGee Sr. and the late Myrtle Mae Atkins McGee. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Dobson Ward, and a retired First Class Petty Officer in the US Navy having served during the Vietnam Conflict. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Ruth Atkins McGee; two sisters, Lala Berger, Dila Powers; two brothers, Hurley McGee, James McGee. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Dennis Wade Barker of Mt. Airy, two sons and daughter-in-law, Lee and Susan McGee of King, Raymond McGee of Mt. Airy; two grandsons, Joseph and his wife Becky Barker, Zachary McGee; three sisters Eleanor Barnet of Statesville, Patsy Bowman of Mt. Airy, Judy Ann McGee of Idaho; two brothers and sister-in-law, Samuel and Judy McGee of Winston-Salem, D. David McGee of Indianapolis, IN; one brother-in-law Dale Powers of Huntington Beach, CA; a special friend, Roy Thomas of Mt. Airy. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Dobson Ward, with Bishop B.J. Nelson conducting the service, burial will follow in the James Monroe Hiatt Memorial Cemetery, with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. His body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home until carried to the church to lie in state 30 min. before the service. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the James Monroe Hiatt Memorial Cemetery Fund C/O David P. Hiatt, 1010 S. Main St. Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd. Dobson, NC 27017. Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson is serving the McGee Family.
