Mr. Ralph Columbus Gunnell, Jr

Mr. Ralph Columbus Gunnell, Jr., 75, of Mt. Airy passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital on Monday, March 6, 2017. He was born on January 20, 1942 to the late Ralph Columbus Gunnell, Sr. and Perlie Smith Gunnell. Mr. Gunnell managed Ralph Gunnell Grocery for many years prior to working in sales for Merritt Supply where he retired after 23 years of service. He volunteered with Four Way Fire Department and was a faithful member of Haymore Baptist Church. Mr. Gunnell was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dolly Jessup Gunnell; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Shannon Gunnell; a grandson and his wife, Blake and Jodi Gunnell. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gunnell was preceded in death by three infant brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Haymore Baptist Church with Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening March 9, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
