Mr. Ray Wilson Bennett, 86 of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday November 30, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Mt. Airy. Mr. Bennett was born in Surry County on September 9, 1925 to the late Roy Monroe and Lana Phillips Bennett. He served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Bennett was retired from Spector Red Ball Trucking Company and was a member of Mt. Airy Church of God. He is survived by his wife, Mary Audene Carter Bennett; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Van Hamlin of Dobson, Patty and Danny Hull of Mt. Airy, Raynelle Hamblin of Dobson; a son, David Bennett and fiancée Joyce Wolfe of Mt. Airy; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Philip Hamblin; a brother, Virgil C. Bennett; a sister, Gennie Vernon. Funeral services will be held Saturday December 3, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Airy Church of God with Rev. Charles Powers officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens with full military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 until time of the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Mt.
