CHANGES DUE TO INCLIMENT WEATHER
Mr. Ray Cornelious Riggs, age 92, of Mount Airy, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Riggs was born in Surry County on September 9, 1925, to Charlie and Lula Mitchell Riggs. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during WWII. Mr. Riggs worked many years at Harrell Oil Company, later at Food Lion for nearly 18 years, and also was a distributer of Castle Products for many years. He loved his church family at Salem Baptist Church and served there as deacon. He was a charter member of Franklin Volunteer Fire Department, and a long-time volunteer at the Woltz Hospice Home. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Among the many who will always cherish his memory is his loving wife, Dorothy K. Riggs; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Janet Riggs; stepsons, Mike Parsons and wife Susan, and Tim Parsons and wife Dara; grandchildren, Dickie Riggs and wife Kati, Brittany Parsons, and Allison Parsons; great grandchildren, Kassidy Riggs, and Alek Riggs; a brother and three sisters-in-law, Monroe and Judith Riggs, Betty Riggs, and Anne Riggs; and his best friend, Richard Marion. In addition to his parents, Mr. Riggs was preceded in death by his first wife, Lena H. Riggs; brothers, Ruben Riggs, Paul Riggs, and Fred Riggs; and a half-brother, Benny Thompson. The family will receive friends at Salem Baptist Church Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Funeral services will be held at the church at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 13, 2018, with Rev. Deward Scott, and Rev. David Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Post 2019 & Post 9436. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Woltz Hospice Home for the love shown to Mr. Riggs, not only during his stay there but also as a volunteer there.
