Mr. Rayford “Frank” Childress, age 87, of Mt. Airy, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Central Continuing Care. Mr. Childress was born in Surry County on May 17, 1928 to the late Madison and Susan Jane Thomas Childress. He was retired from Balston Knitting and was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church where he faithfully served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He had an outgoing personality and was a friend to all who knew him. Surviving is his devoted wife, Lavinia Edwards Childress of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Greg Tolbert of Pilot Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Harriett Childress of Pinnacle; grandchildren and spouses, Jamye and Travis Tilley, Brandi and Nathan Felts, Courtney and Zach Spraker, Josh and Kimberly Childress, Tate and Ashleigh Childress; sister, Elaine Doggett; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Childress was preceded in death by sisters, Kathryn “Kat” Sutphin, Gladys Haynes, Frances Childress, Phoebe Martin, and Ruth George; a brother, Haywood Childress, and a half-brother, Ola Childress. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mickey Cogdill officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 AM until time for the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bannertown Baptist Church Building Fund, 1834 Westfield Rd., Mt.
