Mr. Richard Eric Harris

Mr. Richard Eric Harris, age 68, passed away Saturday September 14th, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center. A native of Surry County he was the husband of Bonnye Mathews Harris and the son of the late Joe Scott Harris and Margaret Williams Harris. He was born in Surry County Oct 9, 1944. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and served our country as a Paratrooper in the Army Reserves. Rick graduated from Mt. Airy High School and worked for 15 years with American Power working in construction of power plants including the Donald C Cook Nuclear Power Plant in Bridgman, Michigan and power plants in Rockport, Indiana and West Virginia. After returning to North Carolina, he also worked construction projects at Tobaccoville, NC for RJ Reynolds. For the last 15 years he worked as an Engineering Inspector for various airport construction throughout the east coast including, Greenbriar Valley Airport, Piedmont Triad Airport, Lewisburg West Virginia, Statesville Airport, Wilkesboro Airport, Daytona Beach, Florida Airport, Asheboro Airport, Asheville Airport and Rockingham Airport. Rick was a loving husband, father and grandfather and soon to be great grandfather. He is survived by his wife and love of his life for 49 years Bonnye Mathews Harris, his mother Margaret Harris, two aunts Virginia Kirkman of Pilot Mountain and Kate Bohon of Galax, Virginia, two brothers Ronald Harris and wife Charmaine, Robert Harris and wife Brenda, a sister Mary Ann Hunt and husband Mike, a daughter Lynn Irwin and husband Dave, two sons Joe D Harris and friend Jennifer Creasey , Tracey Harris and wife Rhonda, seven grandchildren, Dustin Harris of Charlotte, Ashley Brent Harris of Mount Airy, Tara Turman of Greensboro, Chad Harris and Amanda Dale of Wilkesboro, Kayla Harris of Mount Airy, Todd Turman of Greensboro and Mariah Harris of Wilkesboro and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive visitors Wednesday September 18th from four until six at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, NC. Condolences can be offered at moodyfuneralservices.com. There will be a private graveside celebration for family at Devils Den Acres in Fancy Gap Virginia.
