Mr. Richard Allen Simmons husband of Glenda Hiatt Simmons exited this mortal existence May 19, 2012. He was born in Surry County, rural area Holly Springs March 24, 1937 to the late Garnet and Alice Calloway Simmons. He was a retiree of 47 years with Floyd S. Pike Electric, presently Pike Electric LLC where he was a manager/supervisor in field operations and an occupational career in the field of electricity having served many of these years in eastern Kentucky & southern Ohio with American Electric Power companies. His later years were in N.C. serving Duke Power Co. & coop's Randolph EMC, Surry Yakin EMC and also several adjoining manufacturing companies, R.J. Reynolds, N.C. Granite Corp., Sara Lee, Thomasville Furniture and others. He enjoyed his hobbies of cattle farming and fishing, he was also well known for his knowledge of Blue Grass music, its organization and life history of each artist. In addition to his wife Glenda, survivors include his beloved children, one son and daughter-in-law Audie G. Simmons and wife Mary Faye of Mt. Airy, two daughters and son-in-law Audrey S. Watson and husband Stan and Angela J. Simmons and former son-in-law Mark Collins all of Mt. Airy, six grandchildren Matthew G. Simmons, Justin R. Simmons, Amber D. and husband Ricky Reid, Shawn A. Watson, Corbin C. Collins and Lecksi J. Collins, one great grandson Hunter R. Reid, sisters and brothers-in-law Mary Leigh S. Adams and husband Burney, Sally S. Utt and husband Roy, brothers and sisters-in-law Michael Simmons and wife Betty, E. Franklin Simmons and wife Betty all of Mt. Airy, a brother-in-law Leon Riddle and wife Ina of Lowgap and several nieces and nephews and friends. In addition to his parents Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by a grandson Cody Allen Simmons and a sister Janet S. Riddle. Mr. Simmons had membership and a strong testimonial of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. A service of Thanks & celebration of life will be held Tuesday May 22, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with services conducted by `Elder Frank Boles, Elder J. C. Haymore, Elder Jeffrey Long and Elder Jeff Boles with visitation from 1 until 3:00P.M. at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mt. Airy, NC. 27030 or to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, Zephyr Rd. Dobson, NC. 27017.
