Mr. Robert Hill Edwards

Mr. Robert Hill Edwards, 92, of Mount Airy passed away Friday, November 10, 2017 at Northern Hospital of Surry County surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on August 7, 1925 to the late James Edward and Annie Laura Watkins Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a supervisor for the Civil Service and was a member of Ivy Green Baptist Church. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force during WWII. Mr. Edwards was a lifetime volunteer at Northern Hospital of Surry County. He had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Herrick Edwards of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Hassett and William of Reedley, CA, Bernice Horner and Parker of Sacramento, CA, Stephanie Edwards of Mt. Airy, Shelly Carpenter and Albert of Newland; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert “Goober” Edwards, Stephen Edwards and Carla all of Mt. Airy; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ellen Edwards; a daughter, Jacqueline Eagan; sisters, Mary Neal, Ruby Johnson, Louise Blue, Mildred Carr, and Jane Newman; brothers, Ed and Claude Edwards. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 13, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Ivy Green Baptist Church with Dr. Bill M. Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 7726 of Independence, VA. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 PM until time for the service at Ivy Green Baptist Church and other times at his home. Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy is serving the Edwards family.
