Mr. Robert Glen Morris

Mr. Robert Glen Morris, age 102 of Mt. Airy passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Golden Living Surry Community in Mt. Airy. He was born in Douglas County MO. on May 31, 1910 to the late Jon Cleveland and Martha Lou Helmstutler Morris. Mr. Morris served under the leadership of General George. S. Patton's 3rd Army during World War II. He was a man who believed in hard work, being self-sufficient, having a strong love and dedication to his family and country. Mr. Morris lived out a little boy's dream by having the opportunity to work as a "real life" cowboy herding cattle; and operating a combine during wheat harvest. He survived the great depression, learning to be self-sufficient and educating himself by training in various jobs, such as a welder, farmer, mechanic, camper and home construction. When asking his family of his greatest achievement during all the struggles of life and battles fought the answer may have been simply stated, "he loved his family and loved only one woman for over 70 years" Mr. Morris is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Nadine Easter of Mt. Airy, Janet and Philmore McMillian and Janie Morris all of Cana, Faye and Neil Cothren of Traphill, NC; a son, Fred Morris of Cedar Springs, MI; twenty five grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Morris was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Crotts Morris; an infant daughter, Pauline Morris; a son, Roy Morris; one grandchild; Scott Morris. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 PM on Monday, December 31, 2012 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the Morris Family Cemetery with full military rites conducted by VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mt. Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy on Monday from 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
