Mr. Robert Lee Rorrer, age 72 of Madison, North Carolina, passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at his home. He was born in Lawsonville, North Carolina on April 4, 1940 to the late Cephus and Hester Adkins Rorrer. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rorrer was preceded in death by two sons, Stacy T. Rorrer and Steven W. "Stevie" W. Rorrer; and a sister, Dorothy Morrison. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Stoneville, North Carolina. He was the founding pastor of Jesus Saves Baptist Church, having served in the ministry as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and associate pastor. He also pastored at Clearview Baptist Church, and was instrumental in mentoring several men into the ministry. He worked at Bassett Fiber Board for 27 years, most of which he was a superintendent. He also had worked as a security guard at Moorehead Hospital and Rockingham Community College.
Mr. Rorrer is survived by his wife, Robin Isaacs Rorrer of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Wayne Benfield of Bassett; one son, Scott Lee Rorrer of Stuart; one step-daughter, Donna Carmichael of Madison; two step-sons, David Pruitt and Mitchell Carmichael, both of Madison; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Lester Wood of Stuart; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, John "Jaydee" and Janice Rorrer, William and Ilene Rorrer, Delmas Rorrer, all of Stuart.
Funeral services for Mr. Rorrer will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Tom Hazelwood and Brother Noah Frye officiating. Burial will follow in Jesus Saves Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon on Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the home.
